Distracted Driving Awareness Month 2023

Protecting your fleet has never been more affordable

According to The National Safety Council, at least eight people daily are killed in distracted driving crashes. The NSC designated April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, which is a good reminder to reinforce a safety-first culture.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that distracted driving killed 3,522 people in 2021.

Distracted driving incidents remain on the rise. Cell phone use has become the most common distraction, with other risky actions including adjusting the radio or GPS, eating and drinking.

Despite 66% of drivers saying that using a cell phone to text, talk or use an app while driving is dangerous, 51% reported doing those things in the past six months.

NSC is asking drivers to take the Just Drive Pledge. In addition to encouraging drivers to take the pledge, transportation companies should use April to promote a safety-first culture for their drivers.

At a minimum, implementing a safety incentive program is an excellent place to start. Promoting training for new drivers and seasoned veterans is also essential to further incentivize safe driving behaviors.
