The Department of Transportation has allocated over $30 million for transportation initiatives to create 210 new truck parking spaces and three rest areas in Ohio and Wisconsin. This funding is part of a more extensive distribution under the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America program, which recently awarded $2.6 billion to 36 transportation projects for fiscal years 2025-2026.
In Ohio, a truck parking expansion project will transform two decommissioned rest areas into new truck parking facilities, adding 100 truck parking spaces along Interstate 70 near New Paris and 38 spaces on I-80 near Hubbard. This initiative has received approximately $18 million in INFRA funding.
Wisconsin’s project will enhance truck parking and rest areas on I-43 in Manitowoc County by replacing the existing Rest Area 51 Maribel and Rest Area 52 Denmark facilities. The new development will include a rest area building, maintenance garage and improved parking for both trucks and cars, increasing truck parking capacity by 72 spaces with $12 million in INFRA funding.
Additionally, a project to widen I-80 in Nevada will also provide 50 new truck parking spots, with around $276 million allocated from INFRA funds.
The American Trucking Associations and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association have praised this latest funding announcement.
