Risk Management Strategies for Identifying High-Risk Violations

Protecting your fleet has never been more affordable

Your employees’ time behind the wheel after receiving a violation puts your company at greater risk. What risk management strategies are transportation companies using to identify violations? Let’s review the three most common methods.

Self-Reporting

Some safety policies include a self-reporting requirement. This requires employees to inform their employer when they receive a violation or license suspension. This method can be unreliable as some employees will report violations and others won’t. Some drivers may not even realize their license has been suspended. It’s not recommended to rely solely on this type of honor method.

Through TVC Pro-Driver, members can sign up for MVR Monitoring services. With MVR Monitoring, company owners will know about violations and suspensions, so they won’t have to guess or rely on drivers to self-report.

Periodic MVRs

It is typical for transportation companies to pull periodic MVRs. Some only pull MVRs on an annual basis as required by the FMCSA. On the other hand, some pull bi-annually or even quarterly. The problem is, even when pulled at a higher frequency, a great deal of risk still comes with this tactic. If you rely on periodic MVRs, you may not see violations until months or even a year after they have occurred.

Continuous MVR Monitoring

Many companies have started using technology to help close the visibility gap by leveraging a comprehensive risk management solution. Tools like continuous MVR monitoring, offered by SambaSafety, send alerts after drivers receive violations or their license is suspended or expired. When the record posts, companies will receive a new alert in real-time.

The real-time visibility into driver risk enables companies to intervene immediately with high-risk drivers. Drivers can then receive highly-targeted training to correct behaviors and prevent future crashes and claims.
