2022 Operation Safe Driver Week Results: Speeding Remains as Top Concern

Protecting your fleet has never been more affordable

Operation Safe Driver Week was held July 10-16, 2022. During that time, law enforcement in the U.S. and Canada stopped more than 35,000 commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles and issued 26,164 warnings and citations. The focus of this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week was speeding—which was also the top violation in warnings given and citations issued. Law enforcement issued over 8,500 citations and nearly 7,300 warnings for speeding/violating basic speed law/driving too fast for conditions.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding has contributed to more than a quarter of traffic deaths over the past decade, killing almost 100,000 people.

With this in mind, it’s more important than ever for drivers to slow down. Driving too fast is not only unsafe, but it causes prolonged wear and tear on a truck, in addition to using more fuel.

It is also essential to cultivate a safety-first culture within your company.

Promoting a safety-first culture is one of the top ways your company can protect its bottom line. Implementing a safety incentive program can be a good place to start, but it’s also important to establish and maintain a safety training program.
